HYPERTENSION: It is defined as a consistent constant elevation of the systolic or diastolic pressure above 140/90mm Hg. It is sustained deviation of blood pressure.
Hypertensive Drugs:
1. Diuretics
· Thiazides , Metalazine, chlorothiazide, lasix, bumetanide
2. Adrenergic (sympathetic) inhibitors
· Aldomat, cloridine, gunabenz, serpentine, timolol
3. Vasodilators
· Diazoxide, hydralazine, minoxidil, nitroglycerine
4. Angiotension inhibitors
· Benazeprol, captopril, clazapril, moexpril, perindopril
5. Calcium channel blockers
Amlodipine, diltiazen, felodipine, verapanil, mibefradil
Adverse effects of Hypertensive drugs
· Fluid electrolyte imbalances: hypocalaemia, hypercalcaemia, metabolic alkalosis
· CNS effects: Headache, weakness, vertigo, dizziness, restlessness, depression
· GI effects: Anorexia, nausea vomiting, diarrhea , constipation, dry mouth
· Photosensitivity and skin rash
· Metabolic effects: hypeuricaemia, hyperglycaemia, increased LDL cholesterol
