Nursing Interventions for Peptic Ulcer
· Administer antacids, H2 antagonists, PP inhibition protective agents to reduce pain
· Teach the patient to avoid smoking and ingesting spicy, hot or cold foods
· Teach patient stress reduction as relaxation
· Encourage bed rest and provide quiet environment
· Asses for evidence of haematemesis, bright red melena stool
· Maintain IV infusion line to provide ready access for blood and fluid replacement
· Maintain NPO status to prevent irrigation of GI mucosa
· Maintain NG tube to suction to keep stomach empty
· Record intake and output to monitor fluid balance
· Observe the manifestation of perforation to ensure early recognition and treatment
